Three MKX Mods No Lincoln Enthusiast Should be Without

Your MKX is quintessentially Lincoln, a mid-size SUV unmatched in either its reliability or its luxury. That doesn't mean you can't make any more of it. In fact, it's a crossover with some serious upgrade prospects.

Here's a few places to start customizing. We'll take a look at the 2018 Lincoln MKX as an example.

1. Engine. At base, MKX has a capable engine: a naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V6 that shells out 303 horsepower. It lacks the raw power of the 335 horses and 380 pound-feet of torque the optional 2.7-liter V6 turbo delivers, though. All isn't lost; you can give your engine a bump either way by enriching its air-to-fuel ratio during combustion. The best way to do that: upgrade to a turbocharger (or better, a supercharger), replace the factory air intake with a cold air intake, and swap out the stock engine air filter for a performance filter.

2. Suspension. The ride in an MKX is comfortable enough, but the steering and suspension can feel pretty soft, and so, they could use improvement. Try lowering the SUV's suspension (its ride height, or "ground clearance") by swapping out the factory springs, shocks, and struts; put in lowering springs and performance absorbers and assemblies. The result: a much more engaging and exciting ride.

3. Interior. MKX has a well-equipped interior, and its eminently upscale, as one would expect from Lincoln, but most perks -- real wood or artesian aluminum trim, for instance, or an Alcantara headliner, or leather or perforated leather seats -- you can only get in Select, Reserve, and Black Label trims.
